Tune Motion Smoothing for Sport by Comparing the Picture

Use a repeatable moving scene to compare gentler and stronger processing while keeping other picture settings fixed.

Motion smoothing changes how moving images are presented and can noticeably alter a match. It does not increase internet speed or recover video missing during a playback interruption. Distinguish a continuous motion artefact from a stream that stops and later resumes.

What does processing do?

Sony explains that Motionflow can insert additional frames and that this processing can introduce visual noise during fast action or scene changes. If you see a distorted outline around a player or ball, compare a gentler setting before blaming source resolution.

Names differ. Supported Samsung televisions may call the feature Auto Motion Plus or Picture Clarity, as described in Samsung's motion guidance. Similar labels do not make the adjustment scale or the effect of a particular number identical across televisions.

Use three repeatable scenes

  • A wide horizontal pan to examine the consistency of camera movement.
  • A ball passing in front of spectators to inspect fast-moving outlines.
  • A cut from the pitch to a close-up to check the transition.

Start with the current setting, then try less processing or turn it off and record your preference. Keep brightness and sharpness unchanged. If the control is absent, consult the model manual; some devices handle motion automatically.

A setting may not suit every feed

Results can differ between channels, apps and recorded material. Keep the setting that makes action readable without distracting distortion for you. If a defect remains at the same moment regardless of adjustment, compare that source on another device or report it to the broadcaster rather than cycling through settings indefinitely.
