Transfer Windows, Agreements and Registration
A transfer window concerns registration periods; reaching an agreement and completing registration are separate steps.
Transfer window is the common name for a player-registration period. Each member association sets dates for the relevant season and category, as shown on FIFA's registration-period page. There is no single closing time covering every country or both men's and women's football.
An announcement is not eligibility
An agreement may be announced before a window opens, or a contract completed while registration and competition eligibility still require steps. A photograph in the club shirt does not automatically mean the player can appear in the next match. Look for registration confirmation, the match list and the applicable rules.
In a hypothetical example, an agreement published on Monday evening does not prove that every requirement is complete before Tuesday's game. Announcement and eligibility dates can differ.
Check the correct deadline
The official FIFA tool lets users filter by association and category. Identify the season, competition category and time zone used for the deadline. When comparing countries, check the registration period of the receiving association rather than relying on a general headline saying the market has closed.
Exceptions are not universal permission
Some regulatory situations can permit registration outside a period under the applicable text. An expired contract does not, however, justify assuming immediate eligibility in any country or competition. The circumstances and rules matter.
- Separate reports of agreement from confirmation of completion.
- Check any separate competition squad-registration list.
- Use the relevant season's dates when reading an older transfer story.
These distinctions let you follow the market without turning a rumour or preliminary announcement into a claim about when a player can take the field.
