Following Kick-Off Times Across Time Zones

A fixture time needs a date, a clock time and a time zone. Missing one can put the match on the wrong day.

Before converting a fixture, identify the time zone used by the source. The display might show the stadium's local time or automatically use your device settings. It might also describe the start of studio coverage rather than kick-off. Find the zone name or UTC offset, then check the date.

Calculate the offset for that date

If an imaginary game starts at 19:00 UTC, it begins at 22:00 in a UTC+3 zone on the same date. A 23:30 UTC start becomes 02:30 the following day in UTC+3. The date change is part of the conversion, even though the fixture still belongs to the same match round.

Do not memorise a permanent difference between cities when one observes daylight saving. The UK government's clock-change guidance explains the move between GMT and BST, which adds an hour. A conversion from UK time therefore depends on the match date, not only the displayed clock time.

Your calendar may already have converted it

When importing a fixture, open its details and inspect the event's time zone. If the calendar already displays your local time, manually adding the offset again will produce the wrong appointment. During travel, a change in your phone's time zone can alter the displayed hour without changing the actual moment when the match begins.

Recheck the schedule before matchday

The Premier League explains why fixtures move after the season schedule is published. An old screenshot is not final confirmation.

  • Check the competition or club's match page and its updated date.
  • Separate the start of broadcast coverage from kick-off.
  • If two apps differ by an hour, inspect their zones and daylight-saving settings first.

Name your reminder with the teams and competition, and review it after an official rescheduling announcement.
