Cast Live Sports from Your Phone to a TV

The right connection depends on the app and receiver, not just the phone you own.

Start inside the app carrying the match. If it offers a Cast or AirPlay button, use that supported route first. Screen mirroring displays your phone's interface, while an in-app casting control selects a compatible receiver. Successfully showing photographs does not prove that a sports service supports the same method.

Choose a compatible route

Google's Cast instructions require a Cast-enabled app and a phone and receiver on the same network. Open the app, select its Cast button and choose the intended display. A smart television is not automatically a Google Cast receiver.

Apple's AirPlay guide likewise requires compatible receiving equipment and notes that some video apps do not support AirPlay. In that situation, check whether the broadcaster offers an app for the television or streaming box instead of repeatedly trying screen mirroring.

When the television is missing

Check both network names and any local-network permission requested on the phone. Test another app known to support the same casting system. If the television appears there, app compatibility becomes a useful line of investigation; it does not establish a fault with the display.

Guest networks may stop devices discovering one another. Ask the network administrator to check the arrangement rather than removing wireless security.

Prepare for the match

Test commentary, audio and the picture size before the event. When mirroring, consider notifications or personal information that could appear on screen. Give the receiver a recognisable name and disconnect the casting session afterwards. Buying a cable or another device before confirming app support may leave the original limitation unchanged.
