Clear an Android TV Streaming App's Cache Without Resetting It

Target the app that is failing and distinguish temporary cache files from its saved account and settings.

If a streaming app freezes or will not open a page that previously worked, clearing its cache is a reasonable targeted test. It is not a guaranteed cure for every buffering channel. First note the app name and error message, then try another programme to establish whether only one item is affected.

Cache and app data are different

A cache contains temporary files that an app can rebuild. Google's storage guidance says clearing this cache on its streaming devices keeps users signed in. Clearing app data is a separate action that may reset local preferences and require another sign-in. Do not select it simply because the two options appear together.

Work on the affected app

Open the device's app settings, select the troublesome app and look for Clear cache. Sony documents different menu paths for Android TV and Google TV models; you may need to open the full app list first. Read the selected option before confirming, then reopen the app and play the same item.

Check three separate results: whether the app opens, whether playback starts and whether it continues. Improvement in one does not demonstrate that another problem, such as a connection interruption, has been resolved. Avoid clearing unrelated system apps.

If the problem returns

Record the app and operating-system versions and when the fault recurs. A single failing channel alongside working channels is useful evidence for the service's support team. Before trying a data reset, confirm that you can sign back in and restore any personal configuration. A failed cache test is not, by itself, a reason to factory-reset the whole television.
